AUGUST 2011: “Say it ain't so, Joe...”

(NOTE: Newcomers, who would like to get an idea of what this site is all about, would be well-advised to click on "2005 Pages" and read that introduction. Enjoy!)

Departures. Nothing remains the same. The only constant in life is change, and lately we've had some sad ones. The most devastating when our dear friend Jerry Roam died.
Jerry and his wife, Marisol (Mary), have been long time area residents. In fact, they purchased property long before anyone set foot in Altos. Jerry loved telling the story of how, back in the old days, they had to ride horses to get to their land. It was sort of like your grandpa telling you he had to walk through twenty miles of snow to get to school, except in Jerry's case it was true!

Altoids referred to Jerry, and his ilk, as Roadies, meaning gringos who lived outside the development while on or near the main road. Of course, that never stopped him from being a gracious host and a rollicking raconteur with a font of witticisms, quips and down-home country wisdom; all delivered in a slight-to-heavy drawl—depending on the "down-homeness" of the subject.
Once, I heard the heavy version as I walked into Ferreteria Him, and I just busted out laughing when I heard what sounded like a genuine complaint, "Look who you see, when you ain't got your gun!"
"Here's lookin' at you, Jerry."

Our other departures, while sad, weren't nearly as traumatic as Jerry's. Some friends are leaving, but they're leaving for the States. Melissa and Dan, and Chris and Buzzy are moving back mostly for family reasons; and they too shall be sorely missed.
TC decided she had to throw one last party for them. So a bunch of us got together to say our goodbyes; and the photos from that event constitute our first gallery. Click the image to see.
(Remember, the link on the last picture will bring you back here...)

Well, it's been a year, so time for another Volcan plant-buying excursion! Yup, every twelve-months or so TC and some friends take off for west Panama to procure flora for the casa.
"How many plants do you need!?!?"
Obviously, more. Of course, I'm beginning to think it's just an excuse to get away from the hubbies. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Okay, since last we talked, TC decided to organize a small arts and crafts show at the Altos activity center. It was just for Altoids with talent, and ten or eleven people (some paired up) reserved tables.
Mary set-up a refreshment table, TC and I set-up the artists' tables, and the show was held one Saturday in July...I think; might've been June?...from 1-5pm.
It was fun seeing other peoples' work and seeing other people—remember, I don't get out of the house much. [Click the pic for the gallery...]

Also, since the last time I invaded your space (thanks, by the way), we've made a couple of major tree moves. You know TC, she's like Butch Cassidy: always thinking.
This time she thought us into a couple of fairly mature palm trees. You know, palm trees like you see in L.A. Classic palms, not some mongrel that everyone looks at and scratches their colective heads: "That's a palm tree?"
Check out the gallery, and you'll see what I mean. You know what to do...

And that leaves us with one more gallery. The one you've all been waiting for, but are now having second thoughts about due to the photo at the left. I can't blame ya.
But, don't let the photo fool you, it will be this month's Ingaso gallery, once you make it by that fright. Hey, if this image has to be in my head, it has to be in everybody's head. I'm not suffering it alone.
So, gird your loins, batten the hatches and put out the cat, it's time to read 'em and weep...literally!

You made it! Yet another insipid Ingaso update up the old wahzoo. "Ouch!" I'll bet your mama never told you there'd be days like this. Sorry.

“¡Hasta pronto, primos!”
