March 2013: “Hell Hath Frozen Over!”

I left the house. Oh, not to the store or Panama City, but to a completely different country!
I know, pigs can fly. And I did. I flew with TC to Nicaragua. It was the first time I've left Panama since we moved here, eight long years ago. All I can say to explain my behavior is, the trip was indicated.
Of course, I didn't like it much. I loathe planes and all the crap you have to go through to board them; plus all the crap you have to go through to enter another country—is it just me, or do they try to make you feel guilty!?!? Then all the driving, all the baggage loading and unloading, and all the checking-in and checking-out. What a mind-numbing annoyance. I'll tell you what, it's going to be at least another eight years before that happens again. But, I'm glad we visited some nice spots...
Granada was a picturesque colonial town, although, to my tastes, a little claustrophobic. Laguna Apoyo was beautiful (click the image for a larger version), and we fell in love with San Juan del Sur, a small beach community on the Pacific. Also, Rancho Santana was stunning, once you endured the twenty kilometers of bad dirt road to get there—we rented a very small Suzuki two-door...
But, the worst part of the trip was the coffee, or the lack of a palatable cup. Besides pedestrian brews, most of the problem lay in a lack of cream. No one offers cream in Latin America. It's either leche (milk) or, if you're lucky, some media y media (half-and-half), but not cream—they think half-and-half is cream! Unfortunately, milk and half-and-half lend a funky flavor to coffee. (At Ingaso, we use imported French cream for our java; it's a little expensive, but omigod does it taste good.) At any rate, what it all boiled down to was us suffering for our sybaritic appetites.
"O, woe is I..."
Be that as it may, we went, we saw, we returned. And I cannot express how wonderful it was to be back in Casa Ingaso. So much so, that I was able to overlook Walter's egregious transgression—the picture is all the explanation necessary: "It's PINK!"
Now, you'll have to click on that hideous craft, if you want to peruse our first gallery, consisting mostly of Nicaraguan images.
Enjoy!

Also, since last we talked, we had some visitors. Most of you might remember their "drive-by" visit of a few years ago. If not, click here for a reminder.
Bill (pictured) and TC have known each other since the fifth grade, and it almost feels that long that he's been promising to visit. Well, hell hath frozen over more than once, lately.
Bill and his partner, Don, cruised into Colón, the port city at the Caribbean terminus of the Panama Canal. There, TC picked them up along with their boat buddy, Mary, and brought them to Ingaso for a short stay. Click their smiling faces...

Okay, it's time for my favorite gallery: our furry friends! I never tire of taking their pictures, much less living with them...well, except for Ribo.
Oh, I treat him well enough, just not with the love I feel for the others—he gets enough of that from TC! I care for him as much as I would any animal who is dependent on us for their well-being, but I and my other four-legged friends resent his disruption too much to love him. I'm telling you, he's a menace! (Yet another TV Ears headset is gone.)
Nonetheless, we struggle through what I'm now referring to as the "Ribo Era"—it's sort of like the Dark Ages. Click him...

And that brings us to our last gallery...try to contain your elation, okay? It's just a few shots from around the house, a mishmash of images with nothing in common short of being close to home.
On a note: when you click on this image, you won't see a larger version till later in the show. Because the first picture is vertical, which means having to write more to fill the space next to it. I do anything I can to avoid more work!
Click and enjoy!

Well, these days they're coming fewer and farther between, but they don't go down any easier, do they. Yours, however, is not to reason why, yours is but to read and cry. Until next time!

“Smoke 'em, if you got 'em!”
