Once the design is finished, each tile piece is picked up, one-by-one, and a dollop of silicone glue squeezed on the back using a dispenser like the one you can just see on the left side of this picture. As each piece is pressed back into place, it's important to not disturb the loose tiles near it. (Also, the edges of the broken tile are very, very sharp...)
