The Emberá villages are basically the same as they have been for hundreds of years; although they're now in political districts recognized by the Panamanian government, sort of like reservations in the States. Nonetheless, the Indians carve their living out of the jungle just like their ancestors did; although they're not adverse to selling their wares and taking their share of the tourist dollar.
